Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? When I think of childhood experiences, the one that always comes to mind is our family trip to Yellowstone National Park. My family went on many trips throughout my childhood but this trip produced the most vivid, sharp memories. Despite being relatively young at the time, I have many memories from this trip: our car was surrounded by wild donkeys, we saw a black bear in the wild, and I was able to see Old Faithful.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I most closely identify with my sister because we have many things in common. For example, we both love to read. We love to read the same book then discuss it. She is also an avid gamer, we play cards and other games together a lot and we can get quite competitive (but in a friendly way). We share more than just hobbies and interests: we both have a sharp wit and special brand of humor. She is an amazingly strong, intelligent, and genuine person and I have looked up to her throughout my entire life. I love her very much and I am proud that we are so similar.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? To answer this question, I decided to think about common traits shared by my friends. I really value honesty; I surround myself with people who are down-to-earth and genuine. I like easygoing people; I do not admire people who take everything in life so seriously. I also admire intelligence, humor, compassion, and independence.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? There have been many humorous events in my life so it is hard to pick the funniest. One story that is rather fresh in my mind happened when my sisters and I went to Ireland. We were walking through a city park and I felt a strange raindrop fall on my head, strange because the sky was clear and sunny. Then I realized that I had been pooped on by a seagull. I turned to face the people I was walking with only to find uproarious laughter. My only option was to clean myself in the fountain in the middle of the park. I went over and dunked my head, something that was rather unpleasant because it was chilly outside. I had to walk around the rest of the day with wet hair and continuously being teased by my sisters.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I've always wanted to travel to India. I've been outside the U.S. a couple times, but never anywhere that has a radically different culture than that of the U.S. I've always had a thirst to see the world. I want to experience other ways of life, I want culture shock. My sister traveled through India for several months during college and told me many stories, stories that I want to experience firsthand.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to give my children my blue eyes, my smile (especially the dimples), my intelligence, my thirst for adventure, and my happy outlook on life. I would also want them to have my steady, easygoing demeanor.
