What is your most memorable childhood experience?

My most memorable childhood experience was when my brother left to go to college for the first time. He was my closest friend and when he had to move across the country it devastated me. But I know that when he left he did it to pursue higher education, which is very important. He did not want to leave me behind, and would have stayed near home if he could. But after he left I knew I would want to do the same once I graduated high school.

What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?

My brother is the closest person in my life. He and I are five years apart but he has always been there for me. He taught me everything there is to know about life. I also learned through his life what I should and what I should not do. Together we can talk about almost anything and do anything together. Whether we go out to eat or just go watch a movie it is always a fun time when we are together.

What character traits do you admire in an individual?

The character trait that I enjoy most about people is a sense of humor. I can always enjoy a good laugh, and someone with a good sense of humor can always do that. Having the ability to make people laugh will always lighten the tension in a room or a stressful time. I believe that laughing is the greatest sensation anyone can feel and if you are able to make others laugh you are a gifted person.

What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?

The funniest event to ever happen to me was when I caught myself sleepwalking in the middle of my room. I had been jumping up and down in the middle of the room saying "I won! I won!" when I woke up. It was kind of scary at first but the next morning my brother told me he recorded it all happening. As I watched the video I realized how ridiculous I looked, and I knew he would never drop it. Sure enough, he still makes jokes about. When he does, it reminds me of how funny it was seeing myself jump up and down in my sleep.

If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?

The one place I have always wanted to travel to is Italy. Something about Venice and Rome attract me when I see pictures of them. I want to go because I know the food will be amazing and so will the cities. The architecture and history in these two cities are amazing, and I would really like to see them for myself. I also like Italy because I enjoy art and I know a great deal of artists have come from this country. I would love to see their works.

When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?

When I have children I would like to pass on to them my swimming medal. For me it symbolizes my commitment to working hard to become the best. When I give it to my kids I want them to know that no matter what you put your mind to, if you work hard enough almost anything can be done. I don't necessarily want them to take up swimming; I just hope they will be persevering kids.
