Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I went to Disney World with my family when I was around thirteen years old. It was the last big family trip that we took, together as a unit, before my parents' divorce. Their subsequent divorce divided a lot of our immediate and distant family, and seemed to trigger a domino effect among the rest of our family in terms of disconnect.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My mother. I'm just like her from a personality standpoint. She's hard-working but caring for others. Her caring attitude is not at the forefront though; she will do things for other people 'behind the scenes' in order to avoid getting the spotlight or recognition. She cares for people simply because it's the right thing to do.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?Maturity, intelligence, independence. Someone who is smart but not brash, soft-spoken and lets their actions speak for themselves. Independence is big, but knowing when you need to rely on your support system when times get tough. I personally bottle up when times get tough (something I need to improve on), so I admire people who can openly ask for help when needed.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Around my sixteenth birthday, my dad drove up to our house in a BMW coupe. He walked into the house and threw the keys at me, proclaiming, 'Happy Birthday son!' I got really excited and started yelling. He then said that the car belonged to his friend, who was borrowing his own truck at the time. I was obviously upset with him at the time, but looking back, it was pretty dang funny.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?Leipzig, Germany, The St. Thomas Church, specifically. This church is the location of JS Bach's remains and where he worked as an organist for the majority of his life. I listen to Bach's organ works every day, and his music has left a huge impact on my life.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? That you do not have to figure out what you want to do, and what you want every little detail of your life to be, growing up. That is the biggest knock against myself, is that I feel like I have to plan everything and keep everything in order, and that is simply not realistic. Life is unpredictable.
