Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?Back when I was about twelve I was on a hockey team. Going into the season we weren't expected to do all that well; we were a small team with some inexperienced players and a kid who had never played goalie before. Instead of having only a couple of wins, we only had one loss. In the championship we were to face the only team that had beaten us. When we finally won it was amazing- a team that was expected to be bad was the new champion. It took a lot of tough practices, hard work, and hard-fought games but we did it.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify with my father the most. He is very handy and great with carpentry, after working construction and starting his own construction company. Growing up, he taught me his passion and skills. I now have that same passion for not only woodworking but also creating new things. He taught me to build everything I know, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with creating something.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire dependability, integrity, and unselfishness the most. Dependability because I think it is important to be a person that others can trust to be true to their word, and to put forth your best effort in everything you do. Integrity, being honest and truthful in everything you do, and standing up for what is right speaks volumes about a person and their character. Selflessness, it is easy to go through life only being concerned with what might affect you. I think it is important not to make yourself comfortable at the expense of others. I also believe that it is important to look to help others who are less fortunate than you.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? When I was visiting my father’s side of the family in Eastern Europe, my father and brother had gone down the street to my aunt and uncle's house. I was running a little bit behind them and when I got there my brother, father, uncle, and three of my cousins were all in the back of the garden area. I opened the gate and started heading towards them when I realized that another one of my cousins and a baby bull had been off to the side of the garden. When the baby bull caught sight of me, he started chasing me around the garden until I was able to get over the fence the rest of my family was behind. At the time it was a bit scary, but looking back it must have been quite a sight to see this little bull that didn't even have his horns yet chasing a teenager around a garden.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would want to travel to Asia. There are so many cultures that have ancient histories that I would love to experience.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass down to them the knowledge of their ancestry. I would also like to pass on to them my faith in hard work, and determination to accomplish their dreams.
