Per the client, "The doctor reported that it could be non-genetic but [we] wanted to let you know." Multicystic dysplastic kidney is a common condition that occurs during fetal development. The condition is typically left sided. Most kids remain asymptomatic, although there is a significant incidence of abnormalities in the contralateral kidney. The genetic cause of most cases is unknown except for syndromic forms (i.e. Meckel Gruber) and rare dominant single gene variants. As no additional ultrasound findings were reported and no other donor-conceived children are known to be affected, the risk for recurrence is likely very low. |
