Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience is when my brother and I flew across the country to spend the summer with my dad. It was so memorable because it was the only time that we were able to spend time with our half siblings as well as our dad. One particular summer my aunt was graduating from college and my dad threw her a graduation party at his house and I remember having so much fun getting to talk and meet with so many of my relatives.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I would have to say that I identify with my full brother the most. We grew up together for a short time and shared many similar interests. At the age of thirteen he left to go live with our father and half siblings. It was hard for me to accept that I could no longer see him every day, however, our shared interests only grew and filled the space between us. When I graduated from college, I decided to move so we could be together again. We never lost our connection to one another even after all those years apart.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire the character traits that reflect good natured and determined individuals, such as someone who always does the right thing knowing that it is the harder option. I admire determination that never wavers. Even if someone keeps getting knocked down, the ability to adapt and learn from past experiences is what is truly admirable to me.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The funniest thing that ever happened to me has to be the first time I ever tried to ski. When I was fifteen my mom and stepdad had decided to rent out a little place at a nearby snow resort. I had been practicing with my stepdad all day and felt confident enough to move onto an actual track. I was making my way down the hill and near the halfway point I started to pick up more speed than I could handle. Yelling back at my stepdad who was following close behind me I said, "I don't know how to stop!" He began shouting at me, "Pizza! You have to pizza!" I started making the "pizza" shape with my skis which slowed me down enough to where he was about to pass me. As soon as he got beside me, I panicked and crashed into him. Our skis became tangled as we rolled down the slope. We eventually came to a stop and were just lying there stuck together in the middle of the track. My adrenaline mixed with the expression on my stepdad’s face made it the funniest thing to ever happen to me.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would love to travel to Japan. I grew up reading a lot of Japanese comic books, a.k.a. Mangas, as well as watching anime. It was an interest my brothers and I always shared. It became a catalyst for the growth of relationships over a long distance. I would like nothing more than to visit the very place where all my best memories originated from.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?Whenever I have a child, I would like to pass onto them the ability to be empathetic towards people in different situations. I would consider it my duty as a father to instill in my child what is right and what it truly means to be a good person. I would want to pass onto them my understanding of other's perspectives.
