Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? As a child raised in the military one of my most memorable childhood experiences involved the several months I spent in Saudi Arabia. Witnessing the class divide and the zealotry there gave me a whole new perspective on my life, my standard of living, and culture in general.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My father has always been an inspirational figure in my life. After college he pursued a variety of interests before becoming a fighter pilot in the Air Force. His distinguished career is admirable, but his willingness to do the things he enjoyed to the best of his ability is what I identify with most. I found his discipline and integrity especially valuable after I left home and had to live on my own. Ultimately my father became a role model for my own life.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?Ideals are what I admire most in myself. In others, I admire courage, integrity, self-control, ambition, and courtesy. The combination of those things creates an individual who can achieve goals without compromising his or her morals or abusing those around him or her.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?During a swimming evaluation in my freshman year, I dove into the pool while the class watched me lose my swim suit and swim a lap naked.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If I was not constrained by time or money I would probably spend several years visiting distant friends at other colleges, collecting real estate in exotic locations, and finally settling on an island in the Caribbean for the summers and a villa in the French Alps for the winters.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I want my children to be intelligent enough to achieve their highest ambitions. I also want them to have my outgoing and social nature so they can have a variety of fulfilling and close relationships, which I believe is the key to happiness.
