Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I had a fantastic upbringing with many positive and memorable experiences. The most memorable was an annual family vacation to a resort on a big lake. For the same week every year, family and friends would come together to laugh, play, party, and teach their kids new things. It was the one week out of the year when my Dad didn't have to work and all of my siblings got along at the same time. It's the place I learned how to water ski, fish, hunt, dance, swim, grill, make friends, and many other social and life long skills I still use on a regular basis. The resort is still owned today by the same people and they continue to provide new young families with lasting memories every new summer. Good times for sure!
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My two brothers and I are best friends. We share the same interests, values, intellect, and sense of humor. We share a bond that only 3 brothers can truly understand.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire a compassionate and empathetic person most of all. I mend well with a person who is willing to stand in your shoes and see what you see even if it does not serve his own best interest. I admire a person when he shares only informed opinions and knows when it's the right time to be quiet. I admire a person with a strong will to continue moving forward even in the face of adverse personal circumstances. I like a person who does not let his own values or generational differences cloud his ability to have an open mind.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I was once left behind at a highway rest area. It took a little longer than I would have liked for my family to realize that they were one short and come back for me. To this day, they claim that it was unintentional; I have my doubts.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I actually love to travel and I like to seek out the road less traveled when I do. Back country skiing, remote fishing trips just about anywhere, visiting the quiet sides of our national parks, etc. I like to escape the crowds and find new things for my eyes to see and mind to absorb! On occasion, I end up losing the contest for choosing a vacation destination and end up just relaxing on a tropical beach somewhere. I don't complain.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I hope to pass on my calm personality, values, morals, enthusiasm for personal health and fitness, love for life, and the belief that tomorrow is always a new day and new chance for something great to happen!
