No change to donor Family Medical History: June 2016, July 2018, May 2019, January 2020. Update received June 2023: Donor's Father has died from cardiac arrest at age 79.Update June 2025: Four-and-a-half-year-old boy has been diagnosed with global apraxia, which impacts his speech and general motor control (both gross and fine motor) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). There is suspicion he may have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) however he is too young to diagnose at this point. He hit most developmental milestones at the very back of the "normal" bell curve (i.e., walking independently at 20months). He was evaluated for speech delay at the ages of two and three. He has made great progress with apraxia-specific treatment. He has received speech, occupational, and physical therapies.Academically, he's performing a little above average for his age. He has no other medical concerns. He has not pursued any genetic testing. Per his mother, “he is a happy, healthy boy, very high-functioning and receiving lots of support servicesfrom optimistic therapists.” Given the high frequency of autism in the general population and that this is the first report out of many births for this donor, the risk for recurrence in the donor’s other offspring, though unknown, appears to be minimal. Without knowing the underlying cause of apraxia in this child, risk for recurrence appears low though ultimately remains unknown.
