No change to donor Family Medical History: December 2022. Update April 2025: A client reported that her child was diagnosed with autism at the age of 31 months. Symptoms began at the age of 19 months. The child currently has <10 words and has high sensory and feeding issues. He walks on his toes, has limited eye contact, and temper tantrums. No other medical concerns have been reported for this child. No genetic evaluation or testing has been conducted on this child. The donor was contacted and said he was not aware of anyone in his family being diagnosed with autism. Given the high frequency of autism in the general population and that this is the first report out of many births for this donor, the risk for recurrence in the donor's other offspring, though unknown, appears to be minimal. Update Oct 2025: A client reports that her child was diagnosed with speech delay at age 2. No other clinical diagnoses have been made. The client does reports a history of frequent bruising/hyperpigmentation and that her child is allergic to Benadryl and Claritin. Update Oct 2025: Two children, conceived with this donor and the same egg source, have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder around the age of two and a half years. Both girls also experience anxiety, and one tends to walk on her toes. Aside from this, neither has any physical or developmental issues. It is also worth nothing that the egg source and the egg source’s father are thought to have autism as well, although neither has had a formal evaluation or diagnosis. Update Oct 2025: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world around them. No cause for the conditions in these children has been determined nor has a definitive link to or genetic etiology in the donor been identified. Both genetic and environmental factors have been found to contribute to cases of ASD. Many cases of ASD are thought to be caused by a combination of the two. As no genetic testing related to ASD has been conducted on any of the donor conceived children, no genetic testing related to this medical update can be conducted on the donor. Without a known cause for ASD described in the children above, a specific chance of occurrence in other donor conceived children cannot be provided. This chance, however, is believed to be higher than the occurrence in the general population, which is 1 in 31 (~3%). As such, this donor has been restricted. Update received October 2025: Maternal Uncle #1 has died after suffering head trauma, age of death unreported. |
