| Updates - Personal | Update received June 2018: Occupation has changed from GIS Analyst to Geospatial Scientist. No change to donor Personal Profile: July 2021. |
| Updates - Medical | Update received June 2018: Donor recently had an appendectomy. No change to donor Medical Profile: July 2021 |
| Updates - Family Medical History | Update received June 2018: Paternal grandmother died at age 93 from a swollen throat; she had a "Do not resuscitate" order in place. Update received July 2021: Maternal Grandmother has died at age 87 from organ failure. Update February 2024: A child is reported with Neurofibromatosis Type 1. This condtion is either inherited from an affected parent or sporadic. The donor is unaffected and there are several healthy birth reported. This is likely not donor related. UPDATE Dec 2025: Fairfax was informed that, at 20 weeks gestation, a client's pregnancy received a clinical diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease (PKD). This diagnosis was based off of ultrasound findings (per the client: cysts clearly visible on the righ kidney, absent bladder, no amniotic fluid, and no lung tissue). The child, and thus the mother, have not yet pursued genetic testing for PKD. If genetic testing on the pregnancy identifies an underlying genetic etiology, and if the egg source is not identified to carry the same finding, then the potential of testing the donor will be pursued. Until then, no underlying causative genetic link to the donor has been made. UPDATE March 2026: The mother sought genetic testing to determine if she was a carrier of autosomal recessive kidney disease; her test results were negative, making the likelihood of this diagnosis extremely small. Per a discussion with the client, genetic testing post-delivery was being considered; unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, no follow-up was received from the client regarding this case. Polycystic kidney disease is a specific genetic condition. The diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease by the client’s doctor was based solely on ultrasound findings and was not confirmed with genetic testing. As such, we have no confirmation that the pregnancy was affected with this condition. Conversely, there are dozens of conditions that are associated with kidney cysts. Some conditions have associated abnormalities of other organs, though an absent bladder, a lack of amniotic fluid, and absent lung tissue may have been the downward effects of having kidney cysts. Without confirmation that the pregnancy was affected with polycystic kidney disease and without genetic test results to indicate an underlying hereditary cause, donor testing as it relates to this case cannot be conducted. In addition, without a known etiology of the medical issues in this pregnancy, the risk for recurrence in other donor conceived children remains unknown. At the time of the writing, six additional births have been reported to Fairfax from this donor, none of which with similar findings. UPDATE APRIL 2026: Fairfax was notified that the client’s currently 3-year-old daughter was diagnosed with gross motor delay and idiopathic hypotonia at 9 months of age after she was unable to pick up her head, roll over, sit independently, or crawl. Around 16 to 18 months, her daughter was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation type 1 via an MRI and experienced a significant drop in glucose, leading to a diagnosis of idiopathic ketonic hypoglycemia. This led to a series of seizures starting at 18 months, though the client reports that her daughter's EEG was within normal limits. Her daughter was seen by neurologists who recommended whole genome sequencing, however the client moved and was unable to complete this recommendation. The client does report that “less comprehensive genetic testing” was completed with results within normal limits. Though requested, results have not yet been shared with Fairfax. Her daughter is still followed by neurology though has since caught developmentally, save for a minor speech impediment. Fairfax is currently awaiting additional information regarding this case. UPDATE April 2026: No additional information has become available regarding the medical update involving a Chiari Malformation type 1 (CM1), hypotonia, developmental delay, and ketotic hypoglycemia. It is unclear if these four conditions are related to a singular hereditary cause or multiple genetic and non-genetic causes. Specific to CM1, isolated forms are primarily sporadic but have a recognized, though complex, hereditary component. As such, CM1 is likely due to changes in many genes as opposed to a change in a single gene, and not all people are affected to the same degree. Hypotonia, developmental delay, and ketotic hypoglycemia can have many different causes; because of this, it is important to understand their causes before a potential chance of occurrence in other donor-conceived children can be provided. |
