Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was family trips to my grandparents' farm during school break. I can vividly recall quad-bike rides with my pop, feeding and herding sheep, and trips into the tiny, quaint town nearby. These experiences were vastly different to my life growing up in the city, yet grew to be a familiar and comforting aspect of my childhood.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I think that I most closely identify with my mother, as I feel that we share similar temperaments and perspectives on life. We are both quite easygoing, even-tempered, and rational. Having said that, there are also definitely elements to my father's and sister's personalities that I also closely identify with.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I generally find myself drawn to intelligent, levelheaded, and motivated people. I also admire people who have the motivation, confidence, and work ethic to follow their dreams.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?My mother enjoys telling the story of visiting a neighbor's open house with me when I was five years old, as I left the tour group and walked through (unharmed!) a plate glass window, subsequently terrifying the estate agent and a house full of prospective home buyers. This anecdote is funny to me in hindsight; though I'm not sure it was funny to me at the time!
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?Space! I think that going to space would provide a unique perspective on humanity and our place in the universe, on a different level to the experiences available on Earth.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would want to pass on my love of learning, and a desire to understand how our world works. I would also like them to be compassionate, humble and conscientious members of society.
