Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? When I was 9 and I saw the ocean for the first time. At the time I was beginning to consider humanity's place in the world, wondering if there was a higher power, that sort of thing. Seeing the vastness of the ocean helped me realize that as humans we are miniscule in the grand scheme of things. Also, I had read somewhere that one drop of seawater contained so many atoms, that it would be like comparing that number to the number of tablespoons of water in the ocean, and seeing the ocean reinforced what I had read.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My paternal grandfather. He was an artist. This was not his profession however it was a very important part of his life. What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I was confused for another child with the same name when I was 7. The other child was 9. At these ages you just do what adults tell you. I ended spending 2 months in the 4th grade when I should have been in the 2nd. The school had no idea until my parents where called in one day. My teacher was worried I was a year or 2 behind for "my age." My parents laughed. The teacher didn't. My parents proceeded to explain the reason I was a year or two behind was due to the fact that I was literally 2 years younger then the teacher thought I was. On the bright side, the school, my teacher, and my parents were impressed I was able to maintain passing grades in a class 2 years ahead of me even if it was just by a hair.
