What is your most memorable childhood experience? | My most memorable childhood memory was the summer I spent with my grandfather learning how to fish. My grandfather was my idol. Being able to spend quality time with him and learn something that he enjoyed before he passed away is something I truly value now. |
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? | I most closely identify with my maternal grandmother. She and my grandfather raised my siblings and me. As such, I developed a deep emotional bond to her. Eventually, I would adopt her mindset about duty that would shape my career path. |
What character traits do you admire in an individual? | I value honesty, humility, creativity, curiosity, empathy, and intellect. |
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? | In high school, I lost a bet and had to either shave or dye my hair. I chose to dye my hair. My friends went to the store to get the hair dye, but due to the nature of the bet, I was not allowed to know the color or check it until the next morning. It turns out they chose blue, and I went to school to have my yearbook photo taken with blue hair. |
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why? | I would travel to the polar ice caps, and Patagonia to view those ecosystems before they are decimated by climate change. |
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? | I would want to teach them two things:
First, a person at their best is, at best, just a person. So do not put anyone on a pedestal. Second, if you have the opportunity to help someone, take it. The opportunity to leave someone better off than you found them should be seen as the demarcation of a good life. |
