UPDATE October 2026: Fairfax was notified that a client’s child was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of two, following both psychological and neurological evaluations. The clinical findings included difficult in social communication and interaction, inconsistent eye contact, and repetitive behaviors. Per the reported clinician, genetic counseling was recommended; however they have no documentation indicating that genetic testing was conducted. No additional information is available at this time. The risk of recurrence among other donor-conceived children is currently being assessed. At this time, this is the only information available to us. The donor has been placed in Investigation status while additional information is gathered and the case is evaluated. If further relevant details become available, they will be reviewed and added to the donor’s record as appropriate. UPDATE November 2026: Risk for occurrence in other children conceived with the help of this donor depends on the underlying etiology. In general, studies have estimated that, when a child has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the risk a second child (who was conceived by the same egg and sperm source) will develop ASD is 18 to 20%. When a half-sibling (i.e., someone conceived from the same sperm source but different egg source) has been diagnosed with ASD, the risk that other half-siblings will develop ASD is believed to be 9 to 10%. If a specific etiology is determined, the risk of recurrence may be different. To be clear, there is no indication that this child's medical history is linked solely, if at all, to the donor; however, Fairfax has elected to exhibit caution and restrict the use of this donor. |
