Updates - MedicalUPDATE October 2025: Per the donor, I do not have a family history of cardiac disease at a young age. All of my four grandparents are still alive and doing well and they are either close to or in their 90s (my paternal grandfather is96 years old). My maternal grandmother had a myocardial infarction at the age of 87 and required a pacemaker placement. I recently completed a comprehensive cardiology screening because of my high cholesterol (currently controlled with diet only)including an ECG, echocardiogram, and a treadmill stress test and all of my results were normal, so no signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or arrhythmia were detected. I do exercise quite a bit and played sports competitively in the past and never had any symptoms. Update received October 2025: Donor's high cholesterol diagnosis was at age 36.
Updates - Family Medical HistoryUPDATE September 2025: Products of conception were identified to have a variant in the MYH7 gene through whole exome sequencing. Egg source was negative. Donor results are pending. Donor has met his Fairfax US family unit limit of 25 with no medicalupdates reported in donor-conceived children related to MYH7-related conditions. UPDATE October 2025: Donor 6447 was subsequently identified to have the same variant mentioned above. This variant is associated with certain genetic conditions that affect the heart or skeletal muscles, causing cardiomyopathy or distal muscle weakness. There is some disagreement in the reported literature as to whether this specific variant itself is pathogenic or it requires a contribution from other genes or non-genetic factors to cause heart disease. These conditions can vary widely in how and when they appear. Some people with a change in this gene never develop health issues, while others may develop heart-related issues or myopathy that can range from mild to more significant. Symptoms of these disorders occur most often in adolescents and young adults; however, they can occur less frequently in younger or older patients. The chance for any child conceived with this donor to have this genetic change variant is50%.
