Updates - Family Medical HistoryUPDATE September 2024: This donor started treatment, at age 34, for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There is still controversy as to whether people with apparent adult-onset ADHD have an increased risk of having children with ADHD. It is unclear at this time what the risk is for adult-onset ADHD individuals to have children with ADHD. It is likely to be greater than that of the general population, but the actual risk remains unclear. UPDATE October 2025: A child conceived using this donor was diagnosed with VACTERL association. Her medical differences included missing ribs, a club foot, an underdeveloped thumb, and a tracheoesophageal fistula. The child passed away shortly after after birth. No genetic cause has been identified. The underlying cause of VACTERL is unknown, but it is currently presumed to affect the development of multiple body systems early in pregnancy. Scientists suspect it’s caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. As such, most cases of VACTERL are believed to be sporadic and the risk for other donor conceived children to be affected is likely less than 1%.
