What is your most memorable childhood experience? | When my brother and I were young we used to play street hockey with some of our neighbors. I was always the goalie because I was a little bit older and wanted to give the other kids a chance to play. One day they started picking on my little brother and he ran off crying. I refused to play goalie anymore, which meant they couldn't play, unless they apologized to him and stopped. They did and never picked on him again. I don't think before that day that either of us fully appreciated how much we each meant to each other. We've been loyal to each other ever since. |
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? | I identify most with my brother because we have been through so much together. When I went off to college, someone asked me my favorite childhood experiences and I mentioned the time I spent with my brother. Whenever he’s needed help, I've been there for him, and vice versa. We are both unflaggingly loyal and supportive of each other. |
What character traits do you admire in an individual? | I admire curiosity, passion, and serving others. |
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? | One year for Mother’s Day, I surprised my mom, who thought I wouldn't be able to make it back home. Later in the day, a truck with flower delivery showed up at her house. My mom thought it was from me because it was addressed to me. I assumed my stepfather ordered it, thinking I wouldn't be able to come. When my mom opened it up, she burst into laughter. My brother had addressed the flowers to me saying, Happy Mother's Day, enjoy your big day! |
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why? | I would travel to China. The rich history and culture really appeal to me as well as the opportunity to learn a new language and culture. It also appears that China will play a greater role on the world stage in the future, and I would like to understand it and its people better. I also think it would be a great place for me to continue to explore my yoga and meditation practice. |
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? | I want them to not judge people from different backgrounds, to go out and explore the world and appreciate every culture and people for who they are, and to meet people where they are and do not expect them to think and do as you do. |
