Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most vivid childhood memories involve road trips with my family. The single most memorable experience was a 2-week road trip from the southern states to the Pacific northwest and back. We drove to Eugene, Oregon for a Junior Olympics track Nationals, stayed in multiple states along the way getting to run, train, eat, compete, sleep, and explore so many different places. Getting to share those hours in the car with family, listen to music, and just spending time together was incredible.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify most with my sister. We have an inseparable bond. Since we were kids, we helped raise each other through everything. We are confidants and extremely close.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire hard work, work ethic, loyalty, respect, creativity, confidence, ambitiousness, intellect, and humility.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? This is my reason for needing to have braces well into my 20s. I was 24 years old and had come back home for a close cousin’s wedding. Two days before the wedding, I was playing golf with an old college friend. We essentially played 36 holes, spent 9 hours on the course, drank a few too many beers and ended up chasing some duck. I tripped over a wire and knocked my two front teeth out. Along with the two teeth, I knocked around several others and ended up having some reconstructive dental work and braces to correct and realign everything. It ended up being a great thing for my smile. I wore braces for 4 years through my mid-twenties, including during our wedding.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel to Costa Rica. My wife and I fell in love with the country when we visited for a couple weeks. It was almost like a life changing experience. The perspective of the entire trip and lifestyle of the local culture just engulfed us.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I hope to pass on the values and traditions of our past, the work ethic and discipline to work until it hurts, love, compassion, intelligence, and education.
