UPDATE September 2026: Fairfax was notified that a client’s child was identified to have syndactyly of the toes. The risk of recurrence among other donor-conceived children is currently being assessed. At this time, this is the only information available to us. The donor has been placed in Investigation status while additional information is gathered and the case is evaluated. If further relevant details become available, they will be reviewed and added to the donor’s record as appropriate. UPDATE September 2026: Fairfax was notified that a client’s child was diagnosed with bilateral syndactyly of the toes. This is in addition to the previous report of another DCP with syndactyly from earlier this month. The donor was previously placed into investigation at that time; The risk of recurrence among other donor-conceived children is currently being assessed. If further relevant details become available, they will be reviewed and added to the donor’s record as appropriate. UPDATE September 2026: Bilateral 2,3 toe syndactyly reported in two children conceived by this donor; both are otherwise healthy. No genetic testing has been conducted on either child; as such no genetic testing related to this finding is indicated for the donor or other donor conceived children. Approximately 20-25 births have been reported for this donor with no other children reported to have this finding. Most cases of syndactyly are isolated and follow autosomal dominant inheritance with reduced penetrance. This means, risk for occurrence in other children conceived with the help of this donor may be increased, though not everyone who inherits a genetic predisposition will show signs of the condition. For this reason, Fairfax has elected to exhibit caution and restrict the use of this donor. |
