Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? There are too many to pick just one. I’ve gone camping in Virginia, hiking and whale watching in Maine, to the Maryland Renaissance Faire, reading books aloud on car rides, learning to ski, picking crabs and lobsters, many weekends with grandparents, and many days and evenings playing outside in sun and snow with my brother and the neighborhood kids.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify most with my mother if I must pick only one. She is smart and determined, and generally handles her stress well. She is the one who has really taught me how to advocate for myself in life. My father has laid out the path, but my mother is the reason I am able to traverse it successfully.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire congruency, humor, and tenacity. You have to be able to trust others’ consistency and drive to follow through. Humor is important because without good company what’s the point?
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Ranking your funny experiences just seems very strange to me. I’m not the type to think that way. I appreciate humor as much as anyone, some of my favorite friends are the people I’ve found that can really make me laugh. Many funny things have happened in my life to be sure. I have a sense of humor and make jokes for myself regularly that mostly only those close to me or familiar with a lot of the same pop culture think are funny. A few times a year I seem to have some zingers that are well received in a group setting. However, in retrospect, I just don’t view my life very humorously. It’s serious to me; idiosyncrasies and “coincidences” tend to have a lot more meaning when looked back upon. In my experience the full meaning to be found in situations unfolds over time and I’m learning not to question what sometimes seems strange or unfortunate.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I want to visit China and Australia. They are vastly different landscapes but both incredibly beautiful. Australia has incredible beaches, and China has incredible infrastructure that I'd like to see. I feel that China in particular would take a lot of money to properly and safely explore.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?First off, I wish to share my great attitude and good health which go hand in hand. I want them to have vitality, strength, and healing. Next is the ability to connect with themselves and others to flow through this life with success. Third would be patience because sometimes there will be roadblocks and we have to wait for what we want, but with the proper mindset and actions all will happen as it is meant to.
