Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? One of my favorite childhood experiences was getting Final Fantasy 7 as a kid. We didn't get to do much since my family was pretty poor, but we did have video games. I credit them with teaching me how to read so quickly since I played role playing games. My siblings and I used to bond a lot over video games. It might not seem like a big thing, but it was a really big deal to me.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify with my dad the most. He's a really hard worker and he has a drive that most other people don't. He never gives up and always tries to have a positive outlook when times get tough.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire people that are empathetic to others and can take a moment to step in other's shoes. I like people that care about their family and put other’s needs ahead of theirs when necessary. I admire people that are driven and keep going despite the obstacles placed in front of them.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I was in an area with a creek with really cold water with my wife and friends. I got wet in a slick spot, and my wife said, “You never learn from your mistakes, there you are getting wet again!” Later, there was a log in a deeper part of the creek. I told my wife “Hey, you remember how you said I don't learn from my mistakes? I'm going to walk over this log.” I was confident I could cross since it was pretty wide, but I slipped off right away, and as I tried to get out, I slipped back down like a waterslide and got completely submerged. I learned from my mistake to be careful with slippery spots after that.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would want to do an extended trip throughout Africa. There's a lot of beauty in the cradle of civilization, but it's expensive! For ease of access, I think I would prefer Latin America in general though. I love being able to go to Spanish speaking countries and communicate.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass on the idea of having integrity towards others, to not cheat others, and to live an honest life despite how others may live. I hope to pass on to them the ability to really love and care for others and make a difference where they can in the world. I would want them to know that they are enough, and that if they work hard and persevere with what they care about, everything will be alright.
