What is your most memorable childhood experience?I was born in poverty and war. As such, I ended up coaching tutoring and coaching since my early teens. And seeing those children doing everything I wish I could have at their age brought a deep sense of warmth. I wanted their lives to be full of the love that I never had. I won nationals in multiple events (e.g., karate, chess, poetry) because I had to be someone they could look up to.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I’m closest to my younger siblings. Having worked hard since my early teens, I wanted them to never experience any of the hardships I had faced. I passed down all my skills, experiences, and aspirations as a legacy of sorts. I wanted to see them happy because they admired me the most.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire ambition, reciprocation, affection, trust, and effort. It is only in love and work that we can see our dreams come true. I grew closest to people that had the same values as well the means of expressing them.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I guess the funniest thing is the constant disbelief I have looking back at my life. I traveled from warzones to a beautiful university abroad. I then continued to hustle in the USA and find where I’ll make a legacy out of myself. I laugh at all the accomplishments and mysteries that await me.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I am indifferent towards the location, so long as I can help people and I’m near my loved ones. I want to do what’s right and make sure my future kids thrive in an environment with less pain and suffering. That’s why I’m indifferent.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?When I have children, I’d love to first pass on to them the ability to express their deepest emotions of happiness and fear. And it is from there that they must develop the strength required to create change such that their primitive emotions mature and manifest themselves into reality. As such, a very unique set of values would be adopted for them to be ethical, loving, and responsible.
