UPDATE AUGUST 2025: Client reports that her child, who was conceived with the help of this donor, has a history of being tongue-tied, having bilateral hip dysplasia, and severe reflux and related feeding issues. No genetic evaluation or testing has been conducted. Congenital hip dysplasia (CHD) is a common birth defect with a freqency of frequency isestimated to range from 1 to 5 per 1000. CHD may be seen in isolation or in relation to an underlying genetic syndrome or chromosome anomaly. If isolated, inheritance is believed to be multifactorial (in which both genetic andenvironmental factors contribute to its development), with an overall risk for recurrence in other donor-conceived children to be approximately 3%. Of note, the incidence is higher in females than males. The underlying cause of why the tongue and frenulum form differently in a child with tongue tieremains unknown. Therefore,the chance of recurrence in people conceived by this donor may be increased, though it is largely unknown. This donor has over 10 donor conceived births with no additional medical updates reported. No change to profile: July 2026. UPDATE August 2026: A client notified Fairfax that their pregnancy was diagnosed with persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) on their prenatal anatomy scan. Per the client, there were no other anomalies seen at that time. Mild polyhydramnios was noted at 36 weeks that resolved at 38 weeks. The pregnancy resulted in a stillbirth at 38.5 weeks; the cause is believed to be the result of a possible umbilical cord insertion anomaly and/or placental abruption. No autopsy was performed. Chromosome microarray analysis was normal. This donor has been placed in Investigation while additional information is obtained. UPDATE August 2026: As follow up to the medical update of a pregnancy identified to have PLSVC, there is no indication that this child's medical history is linked solely, if at all, to the donor. As is true with this case, most instances of this condition are found incidentally during a prenatal ultrasound or after birth when imaging is performed for another reason. Of note, approximately 20 20 births have been reported for this donor with no other children reported to have this finding. Despite this, the risk for occurrence in other children conceived with the help of this donor may be increased. As such, Fairfax has elected to exhibit caution and restrict the use of this donor. |
