What is your most memorable childhood experience?When I first went to Boy Scout Camp. I had so many intense feelings. At once I was thrilled to be there yet scared of being away from home. I was proud to be in the same troop as my brother and excited to better my friendships on my own.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?Of my immediate family, my dad is the one with whom I identify the most. We are both very emotional people who show great concern for the feelings of others. Unfortunately, as a result we are both quick to anger; nonetheless, we are quick to relent and sympathize as well.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire someone who holds tightly to his principles. Even if I may disagree with someone's views, if they can stand up for those beliefs they have my respect. I also admire honesty, because these days it is hard to find any one who will truly be honest without mollycoddling.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?As we were driving in the country, my girlfriend started making this "swoosh" noise. I said to her, "I don't think hay sounds like that", since we had passed some haystacks recently. We looked at each other and died laughing at the synchronicity.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel to Europe for a summer making my way around the grand centers of Western civilization. I would go from Dublin to St. Petersburg, from Barcelona to Istanbul, tasting the food, seeing the architecture, and learning about the cultures that left their mark on the first two millennia.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I want to have kids and when I do, Lord willing, I want them to inherit my love of learning for its own sake. Also, I hope that from watching my actions, they learn to value justice and fair play as well as the need to temper justice with mercy.
