What is your most memorable childhood experience?My most memorable childhood experience is winning the school spelling bee two times in a row. The spelling bee was a huge deal at my school. Each grade had a chance to showcase their best and brightest spellers. In the third and forth grade, II succeeded in placing first. I remember being referred to as the human dictionary by everyone; it was real confidence boaster. However, before I had the chance to continue my winning streak the next year, the spelling was unfortunately canceled.Those winning moments resonate with me because as a kid, it was my first taste of winning on my own. That sense of pride still motivates me today.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?When I think of family and who I identify with most, I think of my mother's brother. We get along really well because he enjoys life and tries not to take things too seriously. He is a teacher, so I share simular career goals with him. I consider myself very lucky to have someone in my family with such great perspective and who is a positive influence. He has a great sense of humor, hunger for adventure, and tremendous life goals.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?By far, honesty is the most admirable character trait I admire in an individual. It is the foundation for all meaningful relationships and also the tactic to making it last. It is a human quality that demands courage because it is not always easy to tell the truth. The other character trait I really admire in an individual is a sense of humor. People who laugh and can be funny are much more enjoyable to be around. Life seems to be much more entertaining when someone reaches forcomedic relief or even indulges in the nostalgia for amusement.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?This moment falls under the funniest and the most embarrassing thing that has happened to me. On family vacation when I was five years old, I was swimming in the pool with my Dad. We were playing some sort of game where he was a shark and I would try to quickly swim away from him before he could catch me. On time as I tried to pull myself out of the pool, my bathing suit slid off and I mooned my Dad and the lifeguard on duty. Needless to say, I was horrified and wanted to leave the pool immediately. Although that moment was extremely embarrassing then, today and for the rest of my life it will just be funny.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If I had no restraints, I would travel all throughout Europe. I have been to Italy before, but I feel I did not appreciate or experience it as thoroughly as I would have now. I would like to do all the touristy sightseeing of historical places,also just to take in the diverse landscape and cultures. I would really like to spend plenty of time in Ireland because everyone I know who has been there says there are no words to describe it.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?Fortunately, I consider myself raised by parents who taught me important morals. I learned that being honest, offering compassion, and upholding work ethic can get you far. I would teach my children the same lessons but also to undestand the importance of making choices in life which make them happy. I would explain that making decisions based on money or the opinions of other would never fulfill you.
