Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was a family trip to Australia when I was 6 years old. I have always loved animals, and as a child I had a special affinity for marsupials; so taking a trip to Australia was a dream come true. My family and I spent a week in Sydney, and another week in Melbourne. In Sydney, we went to many zoos, toured the Sydney Opera House, and visited a park where kangaroos behaved much like pigeons in Central Park. In Melbourne, we went to another zoo where I got to hold a koala, my favorite animal at the time, and feed wild lorikeets. That trip to Australia is one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and my most fond childhood memory.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?The family member who I most closely relate to is my father. Our personalities are very similar. We are both laid back and easy-going, but also rational and intelligent. We even have similar mannerisms; we both hardly ever say "too" and we both almost always say "as well". Both of us have worn our hair long throughout our lives. In appearance, I am very close to the spitting image of my dad, and I'm very satisfied with that.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The character trait I admire most in an individual is intelligence. I admire intelligence in all forms. For example, I view the ability to lead people as a form of intelligence, and I think artistic ability is another form. I also greatly admire honesty. I think that people should say what's on their minds. I feel that honesty and intelligence together define a person's character.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Probably one of the funniest experiences I have had was at a family reunion. My family on my mother's side rents a beach house each year, and we all spend a week together there. I have a very large family on my mother's side, over 30 relatives come to the reunions. At a recent reunion, my uncle decided it would be fun to try to recreate baby photos with all of the cousins, as in taking pictures of us now, doing things we did as small children. We're all grown up now. One photo he wanted to reproduce was a picture of me and a cousin in a bathtub as babies. So my cousin, who is 6'5", and I (6 feet tall) climbed into a tub and tried to sit next to each other. The resulting photo is a hilarious jumble of knees. My uncle created a slideshow for the family's entertainment.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If I could travel anywhere and money was not an issue, I would return to Australia. Australia is an amazing country, and there are many things I still have not done, such as scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef and seeing Ayer's Rock. If I return to Australia I would love to spend a week in Sydney, a week along the coast, and a week touring the Outback. Returning to Australia has been a dream of mine since I was small, and I hope to return one day.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? When I have children I hope to pass on my intelligence. I hope that they are fast learners like me. Also, it may seem vain, but I would like to pass on my blonde hair. I read a study once that said it is possible that blonde hair will no longer exist within 200 years because it's a recessive gene. I think that would be a horrible thing and I hope I can do my part to keep blond hair on Earth.
