Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience is of a summer when I was around twelve years old. My cousins and I were in Mexico visiting our grandparents, who live in a farming town near a river. One hot day we decided to walk to the river for a swim but we didn't realize how far away the river was by foot. We made it to the river and we were really thirsty but we weren't going to drink the water from the river. It didn't look very clean. We walked around looking for a cleaner spot and we found a watermelon patch. Each one of us took as many watermelons as we could to a spot next to a tree and ate until we were full. We had a really good time that day and that is why I will always remember that experience.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I grew up as an only child with a single mother, so the only immediate family member I can relate to is my mother. Everything I learned was from her and thanks to her. Now I ask myself "What would my mom do?" before making any important decision.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The character traits I most admire are intelligence and benevolence. I admire intelligence as a trait you have to work for. Intelligent people didn't all of a sudden wake up and know everything. At some point they had to sacrifice going out, having fun and many other things to be able to posses that specific trait. Benevolence is a character trait that is truly hard to find. Not everyone can care for others as you do for yourself. Anyone who is willing to help out others without getting something in exchange is worthy of my admiration.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?One of the funniest things ever to happen to me was a couple of years ago. I was at a park on a swing set with a girlfriend and when I was going to get off I tried something I used to do when I was a kid. What I was planning to do was to jump off the swing in midair and land on my feet, but my momentum when I landed caused me to fall face down and slide across the wood chips. I couldn't stop laughing while I was still on the ground.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If I could travel anywhere and not have to worry about time or money I would go to Brazil. It would give me a chance to see my favorite soccer athletes and meet people from all over the world. Another reason would be that I have always wanted to see their Carnival. It's one of their biggest holidays and is well-known around the world.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? When I have children I would like to pass on to them my linguistic ability and traditions. I grew up with the privilege of speaking two languages and it's something I would like my children to have as well. As I grew up, living in many different places, including Mexico, I learned a lot about cultures and traditions. Now I realize how important it is to keep them alive. What better way than to pass them on?
