Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? The most memorable experience of my childhood would have to be one of the summers I spent at my godparent’s home. While there is not a specific moment that stands out, the days were filled with water skiing, tubing, swimming, yard games and when the weather got bad, video games, movies and lounging. Ever since I was a child, spending time with family has been very important, and these weeks are a big reason why.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I would say that the family member I most closely identify with is my mother, the main reason being our shared temperament. Both my father and sister are more high-strung, rather stubborn individuals. On the other hand, my mother and I are much more calm, and easy going. Because of this, I’ve always felt a little closer to my mother.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The traits I most admire in someone, and the traits that I strive to keep for myself as well, are intelligence, drive, and humility. I feel that these traits are important not only individually, but also in concert with each other. To achieve anything in life both intelligence and drive are key, but to be humble in one’s pursuit and attainment of their goals, that is something I truly admire.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?Of all of the funny things that have happened to me, the one that I remember most happened in kindergarten. While seated at a table with a few other children I was nervously drinking some chocolate milk during snack time. I was nervous because it was early in the year, and I had not made any friends yet. While I do not remember what precipitated the moment, something happened to make me laugh—or perhaps I sneezed—and I sprayed milk out of my mouth and nose. While this might have been mortifying, it led to my befriending another one of the children, who became my best friend for most of my K-12 life.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If I had nothing holding me back, I would love to travel to Europe and Australia. Several places in Europe attract me because of the depth of history there. I feel like it would be so interesting to experience the architecture, food and traditions of several of the European countries. Australia is interesting to me because of the wildlife, and all around exotic nature of the continent. It simply seems like an exciting and interesting place to visit.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?Aside from the traits I mentioned earlier, I would like to pass on the appreciation of family. I feel like family is the most important thing in the world, and that we should all treasure our family members and all they do for us.
