Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My cousins, sister, and I used to have sleepovers at my grandparent's when we were kids. We would set up blankets on the living room floor and stay up late watching movies and eating snacks. We tried to stay up all night after our grandparents fell asleep. In the morning we would make breakfast and play games. They were great times.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I really looked up to my dad as a kid. While we didn't get to spend tons of time together because of his work schedule (he is a cop), we shared a lot of interests and had a great time when he wasn't working. We love baseball, old cars, historic documentaries, and college football. He is always easy to talk to and ask for advice and I treasure our relationship.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I find myself drawn toward people who continue to challenge themselves throughout their lives. People who look at their situation and think, "How can I make this better?" I have no qualms with people who are content with their surroundings. I would love to feel that relaxed. But I have much more respect for people who want to help improve things for everyone.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?A friend's family was throwing a barbeque and I decided to go inside to grab a few trays of food and a pitcher of iced tea that were on a table just inside the back door. I opened the sliding glass door and left it opened so I could carry everything out. While I was gathering everything up, someone closed the door and I didn't notice. Once I had everything in my hands I turned and walked straight into the glass door. Everyone howled! All the food and tea spilled everywhere. The first thought I had was that I hoped my best friend hadn't seen that just happen. When I looked up, he was standing there laughing the loudest as he came over to help me clean it up.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?Ever since I left the Navy, I've wanted to go on a round-the-world pleasure cruise. I would like to take my family and live on a ship for five or six months. We would take our time and really enjoy all the seaside cities that we would visit. There are a few travel companies that run trips like this, or maybe we could plan it ourselves on different ships.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like them to have compassion for others and a sense of social responsibility; an understanding that they are lucky to be as blessed as they are and their actions and decisions affect others nearby and around the world.
