Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? Here is one that has stuck with me and points to my unique thought process and individuality: When I was little, my mom would take me to a major university in the fall. Through campus runs a river that was teeming with ducks. We would have a picnic, then take bring stale bread to feed the ducks. On one of these trips, I looked up at my mom and said, "I want to be a duck when I grow up." Mom: "Huh?" Me: "It's great. You can swim all day, people come to feed you and then when you're tired of them you can fly away."
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I identify with my dad. He was the one with whom I shared the most interests, spent the most time and took the most trips.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I most admire someone who has the internal strength to carve his/her own path in life while positively impacting others (vs. barreling through people to get one's way).
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? That's a tough one. Nothing major comes to mind, but there has been a lot of good-natured ribbing that points to people liking me and knowing I can take a joke and laugh at myself and the situation. For example, one of my employees pasted my face on the cover of the Love Boat TV show DVD cover and made an inside joke to others.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel somewhere to coordinate an effort that would have an immediate positive impact on the lives of people. For example, the first thing that came to mind is that a $10 mosquito net over an African family's bed can save a life.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I hope to pass on to them the ability to think through situations as they arise, the independence to stand on their own two feet even in the face of adversity, and the confidence to do what is right vs. what is easy.
