Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was taking a two week family road trip to the east coast. Having spent my entire life living in a small town, seeing other parts of the country had a big impact on me. It made me want to get out and see the world. It had a lasting effect on me and is a big reason I ended up joining the Navy to seek adventure when I graduated from college.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I most closely identify with my brother. We had very similar experiences growing up. We were in school together and associated with the same people in our small town. As adults we have very similar values. Both of us served in the military and have a very similar outlook on life.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?Above all else, I value honesty.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? When I was in college, I had a PDA that was stolen. I called the police to notify them of the theft and when they arrived to interview me, they intended to arrest me because there was someone else who shared my name who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The issue was immediately cleared up because our middle names were different, but I thought it was ironic that I called the police to report a theft and they came to arrest me.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel to Patagonia in the Andes mountains of Chile. I would love to go there to spend a few weeks hiking in the mountains.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I want to teach them that the most important thing you can do with your life is to make sure that the world is a better place because you lived in it.
