Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience?I remember Christmas Eve one year my sisters and I were scheming up ways to catch Santa Claus in action. We decided to set up a hidden video camera pointing at our tree in hopes of capturing Santa placing our presents under the tree. Unfortunately, the next morning when we excitedly went to check what the video had captured, we discovered that the camera had mysteriously turned off before anything happened. My dad told us it must have been Santa's magic. We were discouraged, but the presents under the tree helped alleviate our disappointment.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My closest immediate family member is one of my sisters. We are both very athletic and enjoy similar activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and intense workouts. If I ever feel like doing something new or adventurous, I can count on her to always say yes. We also currently live close to each other. A few months ago, we enjoyed bouldering on some of the larger rocks at a local park.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I think empathy is the character trait I admire most. Too many people do not take the time to think about how others feel or see the other person's perspective.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I remember one time my cousin, friend, sisters and I were all playing basketball in my driveway. We decided to make a video compilation of us slam dunking (on a hoop that was lowered) so we went inside and grabbed the camera. Our golden retriever followed us back outside and watched as we started filming. She became very excited at all the yelling and jumping. When it was my turn to be videotaped, I took the ball and started running toward the hoop, but my dog started to chase after me. I kept running but she caught up and started jumping on me and eventually bit onto my shorts, pulled them off and ran away with them. We all were dying of laughter, especially because we caught it on film.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would love to take my bike and travel the United States/Canada. There are so many beautiful and diverse places on this continent and I would like to explore them all. Also, the United States is such an enormous country and I have seen so little of it. It would be nice to observe the different cultures within our country and see how people live.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? This is a very difficult question to answer because I feel as if I would like to pass on to my children so much, like how to make chocolate milk, how to read, and how to choose your friends. But I guess to answer this question, I would like to pass on to my children my love for knowledge and constant learning. I find it very fulfilling learning something new beyond what I am required to learn in school and it makes you a more well rounded person. Also, I would like to pass on to them the ability to ride a bike. Riding a bike is a necessity.
