Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was moving from one state to another, and then back again. My father was in the Air Force and we moved with him as necessary. Instead of flying my parents decided to take a two week vacation to drive. When we moved back again we did the same thing. We stopped at a lot of attractions along the way and got to see a lot of the country. It was a fantastic experience and I hope I can provide a similar experience to my future children.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My sister. Having moved a few times as a child, a lot of the time we didn't know anyone in the new town so we spent a lot of time together. We would play board games, run around outside or play with toys together. That bond continues to this day, and although we don't live near each other, we still talk at least once a week and are still very close.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire someone that is honest, hard working, but also has enough of a sense of humor that they don't take things too seriously. Being honest with oneself helps someone grow as an individual by admitting mistakes and learning from them. Having a good sense of humor is important because so much in this world is absurd that sometimes you just have to laugh it off and enjoy the ride.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?N/A
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would travel around South America to see the cities of the ancient native cultures. Places like Machu Picchu and Chichen Itza. I love history and I think these locations look so incredible. The skill with which these cities and structures were created so long ago is impressive. I would love to just be there and take in the areas, architecture and environment.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass onto them the ethic described by this quote from astrophysicist Neil Degrasse Tyson: "I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you." I think if my children can do these two things every day, they'll be in good shape.
