Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experiences are going on business trips with my dad to multiple foreign countries. Meeting the local residents and being exposed to their lifestyle opened my eyes to how different cultures can vary so widely in how they live and interact with each other. I also learned of the different customs expected in business engagements.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I definitely identify with my dad the most. He always taught me that respect is earned, not by what you say, but only by your actions. He is the hardest working person I've ever met, and I strive to be just like him. My dad is a stereotypical do-it-yourself man that would rather spend the time learning the topic at hand, rather than relying on others. He has taught me how to be independent, and I can't thank him enough for that.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I most admire a combination of two traits. Strength and empathy. A person who is strong can take care of themselves without constantly leaning on others. However, a strong individual may be perceived as being selfish if they do not have empathy. If you are both a strong individual and have empathy towards others, you may have the ability to take care of yourself, along with helping others around you.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?My sister pranked me once while I was in the shower. Apparently I was taking too long in the shower, so she banged on the door loudly yelling "Fire, there's a fire in the house!" It should be noted that my sister was an actor, so naturally she could be quite convincing. We were doing towel laundry at the time so no towels were available, but I did manage to grab the bathroom rug and wrap it around my body as I ran out the door. I made it to the living room and quickly learned that my grandparents, aunts, and uncles had just arrived to my house. All of them staring at me, dripping wet, shampoo in my hair, with a bath rug wrapped around my body. Needless to say, I wasn't laughing at the moment, but it definitely makes me chuckle looking back on it.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would first go to Hawaii and try to learn how to surf. This is something I've always wanted to do, and I plan to have my eventual honeymoon there. I would then go back to the countries I visited on my father's business trips. This is mostly for nostalgia purposes, but it would be nice to see how I perceive these foreign places as an adult.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would mainly want to pass on to them the importance of being the best you can be. Aspire to do more with what you are given, and don't take days off. If they look back on life and feel genuine happiness, then I have done my job. I would hope that they have learned the importance of family, friends, and the sharing of memories between them.
