Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My first experience with boating was in the scouts. On my second summer at scout camp, I signed up for all the boating merit badges offered: sailing, canoeing, and rowing. That was one of the best summers there. I learned how to sail and row, despite the numerous capsizes. I still remember to this day how much fun it was.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I most closely identify with my maternal grandfather. He was a steadfast and responsible man that always had the right answer. He always knew how to fix a problem, and I could always count on him for advice. Growing up I tried to emulate him and I most closely identify with him.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire things that I try to embody myself. Trustworthy, loyal, brave, reverence, integrity, dependability, decisiveness, bearing, justice.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?During a game of flag football at a scouting function, I was chasing another scout on the other team who had possession of the ball and was running for a touchdown. He made a sharp turn at the edge of the field. The grass was wet and I was not so fortunate and I ran full speed into the back of a pickup truck! I slid under it so far I was looking up at the tailgate. The whole troop laughed and so did I when I could breathe again! It was hilarious.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would want to see all the ancient architecture in the Mediterranean: Greece, Athens, Rome. This would be just a start. I would also like to see the same in the South Pacific and Latin America and of course all the castles and the like in Europe.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would want to pass on all the things I've learned from mistakes I have made, so that they would not have to make the same mistakes. I'd like to share my experiences with them and pass on a willingness to never stop learning and exploring.
