Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was at the age of seven years old, when my parents surprised me with a birthday party. I was never able to have birthday parties as a child because of the difficult financial situation my parents were in during the transition of moving to another country. I had come to accept that my brother and I weren’t allowed to have birthday parties. That was until I walked into a Batman themed room filled with all my family and friends. It’s special to me because it was the first and last birthday party I had.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?The person I closely identify with the most is also the person who I argue with the most. My older brother and I are completely different people in regards to our personalities, but that has never stopped us from having a very strong bond. He has always been a very strong inspiration to me, ranging from his achievements to his philanthropic work. He is the kind of person I wish to become, which is why I identify with a lot of his goals and ideals.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire honesty the most in an individual, because with honesty you can develop many deep bonds with another. When someone is honest with you, you can begin to trust them and even count on them for their opinions. Unfortunately, honesty is a very hard trait to find nowadays, making it that much more important to me.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?I was at a beach water park, waiting in line do go down the Hurricane. The ride in which you go down a tube and start spinning around a giant funnel, eventually leading out to a pool. It was my turn to go down next, and I didn’t waste a single moment. Unfortunately, my swim shorts got stuck with one of the pieces of the tube and ripped apart as I was going down. When I finally came out onto the funnel, I was in my underwear trying to stop them from flying off as well. Try to imagine a boy going down the ride in his underwear and making his parents buy him new shorts, while he waits in the pool. When this happened to me, I couldn’t help but just laugh at how funny it must have seemed. To this day it is still one of my favorite stories to tell.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If time and money weren’t an issue, I wouldn’t just go to one place. Why settle for one place, when there is so much to do? I would start with a backpacking trip across Europe. Starting with Ireland and traveling down ending at Greece. Stopping at each country to experience all their different cultures and history. Although Greece must be my last destination because their history has always held a special place in my heart.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?My father passed on to me an honor code that has helped guide me throughout my life. Whenever I felt lost or confused I could always think back on his code and it would immediately give me the answer that I needed. That is what I would pass on to my future children.
