Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience would have to be the summers spent outside with my neighbors. I was fortunate enough to live next to lots of neighbors who were all around my age, and during the summers we would play outside all day. Some of our activities consisted of wallball, wiffleball, capture the flag, swimming at the beach just blocks away, kick the can, tenting out in our grass alleyway, and more. I never had a dull summer growing up.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I think I most closely identify with my dad because we share many of the same passions and interests. Every year my dad and I go to the state high school hockey tournament together, which is a hot ticket. We've been going there together for as long as I can remember. He also coached several of my baseball teams growing up, and supported me in hockey and soccer. He also taught and played the best backyard game with me: wiffleball.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire a person with a sense of humor, because life isn't always the greatest, but I can appreciate someone who makes it fun. I also admire people who don't let problems or issues get them down or discourage them. I like when people can make a plan to solve their problems, or try and see the bright side in any situation. I also admire people who can listen and care. Everyone loves to talk about themselves, but taking time to listen to what others have to say is important.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?One of the funniest things to happen to me was when I was helping my friend get down Christmas decorations from the top shelves of the garage. I was at the top of the ladder, and he was down at the bottom. I reached for an especially large and heavy box, and when I tried to pull it down, I lost my balance and fell off of the ladder. When I fell, I knocked my friend off balance, causing him to fall back into a pile of boxes and knocking them all down. I landed on the hood of my mom's car and left a dent. Neither of us was hurt, but when it was over, we both looked at each other and just laughed for a while.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If time and money were not an issue, I would travel to either Spain or France. I want to travel to Spain because that is where my grandpa is from, and I want to visit the area where he grew up. I also would want to visit France because I have always wanted to visit mainland Europe, and we have close family friends there who would be able to show me around the country.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? When I have children, I want to pass on many things. For one, I want to pass on the drive to do well in school. Succeeding in the classroom will set you up to do great things in the real world. I would like to pass on my height and athleticism to them. Being healthy and fit are very important things, and I hope they will find the same joy I did in participating in sports; however I wouldn't want to force anything upon them. Also, I want to pass on to my kids the ability to be flexible to different situations in life. Life is full of unexpected events and scenarios, so the ability to react in a positive way, and deal with those situations is very helpful.
