Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable childhood experience was when I traveled by car with my family to the Texas border. It was a five or six hour drive we did every year in July. As a little kid, I used to save my money all year long for this trip. I bought myself clothes to wear in school, as well as other things I liked. It was how my father taught me the value of money and saving. During our stay in Texas, usually five or six days, we ate at the buffets and enjoyed just staying at the hotel and visiting the malls. Since prices of clothes are so much cheaper in the US than in Mexico, everyone made good use of it to buy all kinds of stuff. I remember my father getting all nervous the day before we would leave home because he needed to drive on the highway. These kinds of things make me laugh right now since I travel all the time on my own for work and pleasure, and I never feel that way or make such a fuss about it. I never understood why he got so nervous in the first place. We used to wake up at 5 am and leave the house by 6 am to beat the traffic and the heat from the road. It was an experience that I will always remember, since we did not have a lot of money back in those days, but he took that trip and gave us money to buy things.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My grandfather, since he was an intrepid man, sociable, and took life by the horns.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?I admire perseverance and grit.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?The funniest moment was when I was in a hotel room with my friends in Mazatlán, Mexico. We were staying in a suite with a fridge, and I opened the fridge too hard and a bunch of ice fell on the floor. They told me to clean it up but I didn’t because I was lazy, so the next time I ran through it I slipped and fell on my back really hard and funnily. Fortunately, nothing happened to me, but it was a moment of laughter and my friends mocked me throughout the entire trip.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I will travel all around South and Central America, as well as Europe and Asia.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?My perseverance and grit as well as my planning and financial literacy.
