Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? My most memorable experience is a family vacation we took to the beach dunes of Oregon. It was my family, my uncle's family and a couple family friends; about twelve of us in total. We only brought camping gear and food for a few days. On the dunes and beaches, there were enough trees and driftwood to build the perfect wind screens to set up a hammock to sleep for the night. Actually, the most memorable single thing about the trip was the toilet we built. Since sand is easy to dig, all you need for a toilet is a toilet seat, an old lawn chair, and a ten foot deep hole. Memories.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My stepdad. He takes pride in being able to do things for himself. Like him, I love to do things for myself. Most home improvements I'll take on for myself, like remodeling bathrooms or building a shed. In fact, he is the one that taught me most of those types of skills.
What character traits do you admire in an individual?First off, a good sense of humor is a great quality. It allows you to get through life without getting hung up on the stresses that you are sure to encounter. With a good sense of humor, you can shrug the stress off and find a solution. A strong sense of self is also an admirable quality. People do not need to be bucketed into groups; each can be an individual unto himself. Knowing that you can be yourself, and letting others be themselves, is a great quality.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?In college, my friends and I would frequent a coffee house which had a stage on which someone would play guitar, read poetry and things like that. One night, for whatever reason, the person that was scheduled did not show up. In my ring of friends, I was known for telling jokes, some good, some bad. Nonetheless, my friends convinced me to take the stage and tell my jokes. I went through all the jokes I could remember on the spot. Probably the funniest and most nervous twenty minutes I ever went through.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I have always wanted to see the Pyramids of Giza. Not just to see the regular tourist parts, but to actually get into the pyramids and explore. I feel like there are other facts about the site that aren't told to the public.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would like to pass on to them a curiosity in life. Be curious. Learning anything can be fun and learn as much in life as possible.
