Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? It was a beautiful day outside, it was my 5th birthday, and my dad came home with a remarkable surprise. He walked me and my sister out to the family pick-up truck, and there we were greeted with the friendliest face! Immediately my sister and I named the puppy Patch, because he had a black patch over one of his eyes. This was the first memory I can recall when I think about the moments my dad and I shared together and it is one that I will cherish forever.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My father is the person I most closely identify with. He is energetic and is as kind as I am. Not only that, but we have an array of commonalities and are able to enjoy life together through our shared love of golf, hunting, fishing, family time, and college sports. He is always able to separate right from wrong, and taught me that from a young age. He has the uncanny ability to take a tough situation or period in our lives and bring joy to it. My father will forever be my best friend.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? Each person in my life has unique character traits that I admire. The individuals in my life are there because of who they are as a person and because they are able to help me grow and develop into a better person. I admire when people have the ability to take me out of my comfort zone to help me grow as an individual in ways that I could not do alone. Loyalty and trust are of the utmost importance in relationships, whether friendships, family ties, or romantic. Additionally, I think that being loving, kind, passionate, and above all putting others first are traits that I admire and strive to be better with every day.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?My first job was as a golf course attendant at about fifteen years old. I was so concerned about impressing my supervisor that when we were making our course rounds I tried to hold my bladder for the entire eighteen holes, hoping to find an outhouse along the way. By the end of the rounds, I told my supervisor “excuse me I really need to use the restroom” and his response was “yeah, just let me show you one thing quick” because of this, I continued to hold it. As he walked me through the last step of the task, I started turning bright red and announced that I really needed to go to the bathroom. His response was something along the lines of, “we are just about done.” Unfortunately for everyone there, I could not hold it any longer. Bright red, and full of embarrassment, my supervisor looked over, looked down at my damp pants, and abruptly said, “yep you can go to the bathroom.” Now every time I look back at that moment, I cannot help but laugh.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?If time and money were not an issue, the first thing I would do is call my parents and my significant other. I would fly the whole family to Germany. My dad served in the military in Germany when he was younger, so I would ask him to bring us down memory lane, encompassing his favorite moments of the time he spent overseas. After that, I would bring them all to Australia to go snorkeling, as this is my mother’s dream. My parents have done so much to shape me into the man I am today, so taking them with on a world adventure would be an absolute treat.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would hope that my children would get my sense of faith, financial responsibility, creativity, and work ethic. But above all else, I hope to pass on to my children the knowledge that it is most important to always do the right thing, even if it is not the easiest thing, and to know that they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
