What is your most memorable childhood experience? | When I was young, I saw a younger child drown in a pool. I dove in to pull the lifeless body from the water. After CPR on the pool deck, life support in an ambulance, and a week of intensive treatment in an ICU, the child awakened and now lives a normal life with no medical issues. I had the privilege of witnessing a true miracle at a young age. |
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? | My father is not only the biggest role model in my family, but he is one of the most inspiring figures in my life. He embodies humility and authority with meekness. I can honestly say that I've never heard him raise his voice in anger. |
What character traits do you admire in an individual? | I most admire hard work and selflessness. Individuals who are willing to serve others who are less fortunate motivate me to do the same. I am drawn to people who open up their homes and are generous with both their time and resources. |
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? | When I was competing at a college swimming championship meet, I was wearing a new fast suit. However, when I was stretching a bit before the race, the suit ripped down the back. Because it was so close to the start of the race, I had to swim with a torn suit. |
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why? | In a few years when I am done with residency, I would love to travel to Southeast Asia and perform free eye surgeries. However, if I had to accept the trip now, I would travel to my hometown and spend some time with family. It would give me time to relax and reconnect with loved ones. |
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? | Life is filled with uncertainty, so don't let your worth be placed in your performance or your circumstances. Learn to embrace the hardships and trials because those are the times your character is developed. Have faith and always persevere because brighter days are ahead, and you will cherish how the challenges have forged you into the person you have become. |
