What is your most memorable childhood experience? | My most memorable childhood experience was going to Dairy Queen after track practice. When I was in high school, my cousin, who was also on the track team, would take me to DQ to hang out with other members of the team. I did not have a car at the time, so it was a great way to socialize with my classmates and build relationship outside of school. |
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why? | I identify closely with my maternal grandmother. Because my mom worked two jobs, I spent a lot of time with my grandma. I went wherever she went. When I moved away after high school, she would call me every day. Even though we no longer talk every day, we still have a strong bond. |
What character traits do you admire in an individual? | I think honesty and determination are traits that I admire in a person. I developed those traits through sports, and as I continue to work on teams, those traits have been very beneficial in the growth of the teams. I also find them beneficial in my personal relationships. |
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? | When I was in the sixth grade, I was hanging out with one of my cousins at his house. At the time, his grandparents were working on the house. I had to use the bathroom, and he told me that they did not have a working bathroom at the time. So, he told me to use the bathroom out near the woods and gave me leaves to wipe my butt. The leaves turned out to be poison sumac. |
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why? | If I had time and money, I would visit a country in West Africa. I minored in African American Studies when I was in undergrad, and it opened my eyes to how history is rarely taught from multiple perspectives in the United States. Traveling to the region would be great because it would be an opportunity to learn more about the history and cultures of the region. |
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them? | I would like to pass on knowledge of financial literacy and arts. I am very big on improving from one generation to the next. I would want my children to be more financially literate than I was as a teenager because I believe that will help them in the long run. As it pertains to arts, I would want my children to participate in extracurriculars that are arts related because I think they help people develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. |
