Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? The most memorable childhood experience I have is windsurfing with my parents. My parents have always been big windsurfers. It was how they met and what they first bonded over. When I was a child, they used to take me out on the board with them. I would sit at the front of one of their boards as they sped across the water. As I got older, they gave me a small sail and board of my own. They would take turns teaching me how to use it while the other would cruise back and forth on their own board. I will always remember those days with them.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?My sister is the immediate family member I most closely identify with. We have a lot in common, from our personalities to our adventurous nature. Our parents spent a lot of time working when we were kids, so we became close while helping each other with cooking, driving, and other chores. Even to this day there is still stuff I feel comfortable discussing with her that I couldn’t talk to anyone else about.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The character trait I most admire is creativity! There is something amazing about being able to come up with an idea that no one else has, or to create something entirely original. Creativity isn’t just about new ideas, though. Someone can put their own spin on an old idea or use it in a new way. The possibilities are endless. The important part is leaving a mark on the world through something unique.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you? This might not be the funniest thing that happened to me, but it’s definitely the time I’ve laughed the most. It was while I was in college seeing a movie in theaters with some friends. I forget what the movie was or why I started laughing, but I remember it was during an intense scene that no one else was even smiling at. This caused my friends to look at me weirdly, which made me laugh more because from their perspective, I must have looked crazy. This led more people in the theater to notice me, which made me laugh even more. It created this positive feedback loop where the more I laughed, the funnier the situation became as I realized how strange I must look to the surrounding people. Finally, I just got up and left so I would stop being distracting. Even while leaving, I kept laughing while struggling between laughs to say, “It’s the situation, not the movie!”
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?Everywhere! Literally Everywhere! It has always been a dream of mine to travel to every country in the world. I’ve already started traveling to a large variety of countries and want to continue to travel until hopefully I reach my goal. There are so many beautiful sites that I want to see and interesting people to meet. The world is an amazing place and I wish I could experience it all.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?I would want to pass on a love for learning and curiosity. We live in the golden age of information. There are so many different things we can learn and so many ways of learning them. Learning anything from playing guitar to public speaking is just a few clicks away. I hope my children can take full advantage of this to improve their own lives and learn many new skills.
