Essay Questions

What is your most memorable childhood experience? As a child my most memorable experience would have to be my soccer games. From the time I was about 6 to 13 I played with some of my school friends in an after-school soccer league. We would train every week and during the weekend we would have our games. The parents would all line up and bring their folding chairs to cheer us on. I remember playing defense because I was one of the only seven-year-olds that could kick the ball from one side of the field to the other, and the ball almost never got past me, in fact we were so good they moved us up an age group after our team won 3 years in a row. The exercise and the team experience were a great addition to my weekends back then, but as we got older our interests changed. Like all things time eroded our desire to play the sport and the team slowly fell apart once our first coach left. But anyways, I could write a whole chapter on me and my time playing soccer, but to keep it brief soccer was a fun childhood experience for me.
What immediate family member do you closely identify with and why?I would have to say I identify strongly with my father. Not only because we share similar traits like hair color and facial expressions, but also mentally. I find we are both very deep thinkers that like to take whole picture perspectives on situations. Often halting progress in an activity until we have a more complete understanding of the happenings taking place before us.
What character traits do you admire in an individual? The most admirable character trait is by far the ability to have free thought. Much of my generation is consumed by trends and social beliefs without a real basis for defending their actions and thoughts. They simply follow and repeat snippets of information to avoid deviating from the status quo. Those able to and willing to engage in thought outside of what is socially comfortable is a venerable trait.
What is the funniest thing ever to happen to you?In college I was playing a video game when a friend of mine burst into the room and hit me with a banana, so naturally I started to chase them down to enact my revenge. Unfortunately, that was part of their master plan. Because as soon as I got out my dorm room door another friend got me with another old banana. So naturally I started chasing them down the hallway instead. But these guys were one step ahead of me again, they had someone set to ambush me from the bathroom. So right when I was running past the bathroom door someone popped out and got me with a banana. So now I'm wondering how far down the rabbit hole this banana scheme goes. Instead of chasing the new person into the bathroom I start gunning for the original offender instead. They were laughing their ass off at the end of the hallway. By this point my hair was full of banana slime, some of which may or may not have obstructed my view a little, and while I was chasing the person down, I slipped on the peel from the second banana and crashed down onto the linoleum floor. Having been truly defeated I couldn't help but burst out laughing with everyone else.
If time and money were not an issue, where would you travel and why?I would likely travel to the Caribbean and beach bum it up. I love the sun, sand, and sea. I would spend my days potentially island hopping in a boat, going fishing, and exploring the crystal-clear blue waters.
When and if you ever have children, what would you like to pass on to them?If I ever have children, I would like to pass on my acquired emotional and intellectual wisdom. I don't feel I received much emotional wisdom as I was reared so that is definitely a big one, because as much as we wish to separate ourselves from our emotions to "perform" they will always hold sway over our mental processes. Learning to understand and cope with them is vital to a successful life.
