Donor Availability Notifications FAQs

About Sperm Donor Availability Notifications

Fairfax Cryobank’s new donor availability notification system is an automated notification tool that makes it easier and quicker for website users to learn about new donor availability. For clients who want to stay on top of any new vials added for the donor of their choice, donor availability notifications will keep you in the loop and let you manage your own notification subscriptions through the Notifications section of your account.

To learn more about our donor availability notifications, view the FAQ questions below.

  • What is a donor availability notification?

Donor availability notifications are set up by a FairfaxCryobank.com user when a specific donor does not currently have availability in one or more vial preparation category. When the donor releases more units from quarantine, notification emails automatically go out to all who signed up for that donor’s vial type. Notification subscriptions automatically expire after 90 days, at which point you are given the option to renew your notifications if available.

If new vials become available, they are available on a first come, first serve basis. Availability is not guaranteed.

We offer donor availability notifications as a courtesy to our patients so that they do not have to continuously call us to check on a particular donor’s availability.

  • What does the term “quarantine” mean?

As part of the sperm donor screening process, we test each donor for infectious and genetic diseases. The donor is admitted into the program when all required infectious and genetic disease tests yield negative results.

After six months, we draw the donor’s blood to retest the donor for infectious diseases and at that point, we release any specimens left at our facility six months prior to the blood draw. Donors must pass infectious disease testing for HIV-1, HIV-2, HTLV-I & II, hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C, syphilis, CMV, Neisseria gonorrhea, and chlamydia trachomati.

  • How do I sign up for donor availability notifications?

To sign up for donor availability notification, clients must first have a FairfaxCryobank.com account. Once you’ve created an account and logged in, find your desired donor’s profile on the donor search page.

On the lower right corner of the donor profile, locate the Order Sperm box.

If you only want to sign up for one vial preparation type for this donor, click “Notify Me” next to that specific vial type. If you want to sign up for notifications for every vial type, click “Notify me when any vial types become available on this donor.”

You are now signed up and will be emailed once the vial type/donor has new availability within 90 days of your notification sign up.

If new vials become available, they are available on a first come, first serve basis. Availability not guaranteed.

  • How do I view and manage my donor availability notifications?

To view your current donor availability notification subscriptions, login to your FairfaxCryobank.com profile and click “Notifications” in your account. This will display any notifications you have signed up for, including the donor number, vial preparation type, notification start and end dates.

You are also able to remove yourself from any donor availability notifications by clicking “Unsubscribe” next to the notification request.

  • How do I renew my donor availability notification subscriptions?

Donor availability notifications automatically expire after 90 days. You can view the end date of your notifications in the Notifications section of your account.

Once the notifications are close to expiring, users will be notified via email with the opportunity to renew their donor availability notification at that time, if possible.

  • How long will it take to get available vials once I sign up for donor availability notifications?

As soon as our team receives negative test results on the donor, notification emails are sent out to those who have signed up for that donor’s availability notifications.

  • What are the donor availability notification limits?

    User sign up limits

Clients can sign up for a total of 3 maximum donor availability notifications at one time. This includes single vial preparation notifications and donor wide notifications as well. To manage your subscriptions, go to the Notifications section of your Fairfax Cryobank account.

    Donor’s notification limits

Active and inactive sperm donors have a maximum of 15 total donor availability notification subscriptions. This includes a limit of 5 notification subscriptions per each vial type.

  • Am I guaranteed doses once I am on the list?

If you are signed up for donor availability notifications for a donor who is currently “active” in our program, then it is likely that he will release again. However, a donor may leave our program at any time after he has fulfilled the six-month minimum commitment.

If new vials become available, they are available on a first come, first serve basis. Availability is not guaranteed.

  • Does it matter what number I am on the donor’s notification subscriptions?

Donor availability notification emails are sent out to all of those signed up at the same time. If new vials become available, they are available on a first come, first serve basis.

  • Will my donor always have donor availability notifications for unavailable vials?

Not necessarily. Notifications exist only for the preparation types for which a donor is sold out. For instance, if a donor has IUI pre-washed units for sale, but no ICI unwashed units for sale, then we would only add patients to the notifications for ICI unwashed units.

  • If the donor availability notifications are full for the donor or vial type I select, will I be notified once I can sign up?

We do not offer a waitlist for the donor availability notifications.

  • What is the process of ordering once I get the donor availability notification email?

Once you receive the email saying vials for your donor are available, you must contact Client Services to proceed with ordering.

You may contact Client Services by emailing info@fairfaxcryobank.com or calling 1-800-338-8407. Our Client Services team is available Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM ET and Saturday 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM ET.

If you decide not to order the vials once you’re notified of the availability, or vials are sold before you contact Fairfax Cryobank’s Client Services team, you will remain on that donor availability notification list until your expiration date.

Each donor’s vials are available first come, first serve. Availability is not guaranteed.
