Tips to cool down this summer when pregnant

The temperature is rising this summer, and so is your belly! Being pregnant in the summer can be uncomfortable and a little sweaty. It feels like you can never find the perfect temperature or get comfortable. Here are a couple of ways to cool off this summer and make your pregnancy a little more chill.

Stay HYDRATED

The American Pregnancy Association recommends pregnant women drink 8-12 glasses of water each day, and more if you’ll be engaging in strenuous activities – specifically, an additional 8-ounce glass for every hour of activity. Water should be your right-hand man all summer. Even if you’re walking down the street to get some exercise in, bring a water bottle to replenish the water you’eve lost!

Plan Ahead

Try to plan activities in the morning when the sun is not as hot. This will help you avoid heat exhaustion or pushing your body past its limits. Always check the weather the day you plan on running errands or plan on activities outside. If the temperature is above 90 Degrees Fahrenheit, try to stay indoors near an AC unit or fan.

Frozen Snacks

Pop your favorite fruit into the freezer to make a smoothie or eat as is. This will help regulate your body temperature and cool off. Popsicles are also a great snack in the summer, you can make your own with low-fat yogurt or your favorite ingredients!

Shower Frequently

Take a quick shower whenever you feel overheated. It is a quick and easy way to cool down. Then change into loose-fitting and light-colored clothing. The breathable fabric will allow sweat to evaporate quicker which lets your skin cool faster.

Create a Sleep Sanctuary

Sleep is extremely important when it comes to growing a little human inside of you. By creating a cooling sleep sanctuary, you will be able to sleep in peace and revitalize yourself the heat outside. Add a fan or two around your bed, and some blackout curtains and you will be sure to have the perfect temperature for a good sleep. If you’re still having trouble cooling down wrap a freezer pack around a pillowcase and put it under your feet.

It’s going to be a hot summer, but there’s nothing like being pregnant and adding another child to your family. If you’re looking for more resources on how to grow your family, read here on how to get started with growing your family with donor sperm.
