An Interesting Occupation

When people hear that I work at a sperm bank, they inevitably ask all sorts of questions, as you can imagine. Their questions range from “How did you get into that field?” to “What are the sperm donors like?” to “How does one become a sperm donor?”
As I describe the extensive donor screening process and how we accept a very small percentage of applicants, most people are quite surprised by the level of thoroughness involved and by the amount of testing that is required. When I tell them how we also help cancer patients and military personnel preserve their fertility through semen storage, many times they remark on how they never considered the need for this type of service.
Every time I describe what I do to someone and answer their questions, I am reminded that I am helping people achieve their dreams of building a family.
